Three Days For Three Daughters

Tomorrow I give up coffee for 3 days.
3 days to represent 3 mothers in Guatemala and 3 daughters living somewhere else.
3 days to represent countless mothers and children throughout the world.
3 days because this has to stop.

*I know, I know. Coffee is nothing. I would fast completely but I can't. I don't have the willpower or body reserves for something like that but coffee is dear to me and it will be hard.
Very hard.

*Sigh*

So, we arrive at a very large local park that has, quite possibly, the worlds largest sandbox. It is filled with buckets and shovels, as well as all sorts of cool water things. The sandbox is filled with kids of varying ages, most are white, none are black. Tiny walks in, I take off her shoes and sit down. She is not 2 steps from me when a woman sitting 10 feet from me looks at T, looks down at her daughter and back at T. She then says very loudly in an almost frantic voice "Anna, hurry up and grab your shovel! You don't want someone else to play with it!!"
All the while looking at my kid, who by the way, was heading in the other direction and totally not interested in her kid or the shovel.

Grrrrrr......

What, if anything, would you have done?

Two years ago today we were on a very long flight to Ethiopia. I remember thinking that I should try to sleep since I would probably never sleep again, but was too excited watching the little airplane move across the screen...getting closer and closer to Africa. I remember how excited I was when the plane landed in Rome to refuel since that meant we were so close. I remember the sun rising somewhere over Africa...
